Press release with pictures PRIDE AWARDS FOR SHEPWAY’S TOP TOURISM PEOPLE Shepway people working in travel, tourism and hospitality businesses who deliver outstanding customer service to both visitors and local residents were put in the limelight on Friday. Roger Gough, the Kent County Council cabinet member responsible for supporting and developing tourism across the county, joined forces with the Leader of Shepway District Council, Cllr Robert Bliss, to present the Visit Kent Pride in Shepway Awards. The presentations formed part of the Gala Dinner and Business Awards evening staged by the Channel Chamber of Commerce at the Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone. Mr Gough said the Pride in Shepway Awards recognised exceptional people working at the frontline of the tourism industry who ensured all their customers enjoyed such a good time in Kent that they returned again and again and recommended the county to their friends. Danny Duffy, of Crosskeys Coaches, was named as Transport Employee of the Year after receiving a vast number of nominations from his passengers while Donna Dryland, of The Grand Burstin Hotel, was awarded the title of Hotel Employee of the Year. Ann Clifton Holt, of Haguelands Farm, gained the Pride Award for top B&B Employee of the Year and Stephanie Leslie, of Romney Marsh Visitor Centre, was rewarded for the care and consideration she had show to centre visitors with the title of Tourist Attraction Employee of the Year. Kishore Saptoka, of the Ghurka Palace, was presented with the Restaurant Employee of the Year Award for his superb service at the restaurant and his ability to put guests at ease and make them feel part of the family. And there was praise and special awards for the Discover Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh manager and chairman, Chris Kirkham and Ted Kirkham, and Folkestone Town Centre Manager John Barber. Mr Gough said: “They have worked together tirelessly over the past year to promote Shepway to visitors in very difficult circumstance when funding for Discover Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh became a real challenge”. “They have used their many years of experience in business, PR and marketing to restructure the organisation and profile the area”. “Now the Discover Folkestone website attracts an average of 80,000 visits each month and there are up to 1,000 phone, email and written requests for further information about Shepway monthly.” |
